A special point is that Bohlsener Muehle always strives to reduce CO2 emissions from the production process to packaging and transportation. Since 2016, businesses have begun to strictly calculate and control the emissions of the entire supply chain
2. Water-powered factory
Bohlsener Muehle’s factory is exceptionally water-powered, producing the finest organic flour, flour, semolina, and grits in Lower Saxony. The grain, supplied by farmers in the area, is milled using hydroelectric power and poured into large and small tanks in the water mill. Bohlsener Muehle applies a multi-stage process to grain flour, in which the grain goes through 14 grindings to ensure optimal quality.
3. Environmentally friendly packaging
Bohlsener Muehle uses virgin paper packaging as packaging material for its flour and cereal products. The wood sources used to produce this paper are all FSC certified – proving that wood products are traded from certified sources and do not affect sustainable forest development.
In the field of dry food, it is impossible to avoid using plastic to make shrink wrap and lining. However, for Bohlsener Muehle, by switching to films with thinner materials, they saved about 34% of plastic each year.
